The two-story Student Residence on the KSSB campus is one of the most
beautiful dormitories to be found anywhere. Students typically share a room with
one other student, or in some cases have private rooms. Each room is warmly
furnished, and students can personalize them to reflect their interests. The
Great Room off the main entry is the gathering place for socialization and
relaxation. There are kitchens and laundry rooms on each floor for students to
use.
Special features of the Student Residence Program are:
-
A Curriculum in the Skills of Daily Living taught by our highly skilled
staff to maximize the independence of each student.
-
Room Assignments tailored to each student's curriculum level, with the
lower floor assigned to children needing more supervision and instruction; an
upper floor for students who demonstrate greater independence; and an
apartment where students are fully responsible for most aspects of their own
meal preparation, cleaning and learning to pay bills on time.
-
A Transition From School to Work Team including a Social Worker,
Rehabilitation Teacher, Dormitory Teachers, and others help to plan each
student's program in collaboration with the student and his or her
parents.
-
Age-Appropriate Levels of Staff Supervision, and a student Health Center
ensure the safety and well-being of each student.
-
Weekends Home means that the Student Residence is open Sunday through
Thursday nights so that students can maintain strong bonds to home and
community.
